Its time for something different. Time for some new life.

I'd like to hear everyone's memories of things that mattered back then. Things that were "cool".

I remember buying apple flavored BubsDaddy bubble gum from Puents grocery store. I miss that stuff.

Hardly any homework when we were Seniors. Playing football & basketball, wasn't any good at the rest of the sports.

I find that my memories of high school continue to fade. Thats sad I think. I like to hear other peoples memories...sometimes they serve to jump start mine.

I remember walking to Candy O's house for lunch once in awhile. What a nice treat for this country girl. Going "home" for lunch. Us bus kids didn't have that luxury.

What did you guys bring for your special lunch for playday? I think most of us brought a brown bag filled with sugar and salt basically. Twinkies? Lays chips? Remember when Doritos first came out?

Choir trips were always looked forward too. Going to Canada, Michigan and the last one was to Moorhead/Breckenridge MN. Guess the cost kept making the trips shorter and shorter each year.

I remember hitchhiking to a keg party with Mary Erno, my very first time for each and I was scared shitless. We were in 9th grade, I think. My first time to drink was with Jackie Anderson at her uncle's cabin on Pequyam (slaughtered that) lake. Lime vodka and 7up. Elephant leg pants. Sour cream and onion potato chips. The Halloween movies. Remember the old theatre in Kenwood where the Old China Buffet is now?

You hitchhiked to a keg party???!!! I never knew that!!

I remember that theater. They had great popcorn. Remember the theater in TH? I saw Star Wars there with Judy U. And I saw Bambi there when I was a little girl.

I LOVED the choir trips!! In Michigan we stayed first with this old grandma lady. She was really sweet and she had a ton of african violets. The 2nd stop we stayed with the Love family. Wealthy people. Not real friendly if I remember correctly. In Breckenridge we stayed with a most excellent family!!! The girl was alot of fun. Dave, wasn't it your host that had a party while we were there? I remember going to someone's house and there were a whole bunch of us there with our hosts/hostesses and I think it was in the country. I do know the people were all really fun. Remember when the Elbow Lake choir came here and we got to be the hosts/hostesses? We had 4 girls stay at our house and they were SO much fun! They laughed hysterically at our saying "beat a loop". We beat alot of loops while they were here in my little Mustang II.

No party at the house we were at, we stayed in town at a girls house. She sent us graduation pictures but don't remember her name anymore. When we were on the MI trip Lee G. and I were offered beer by our hostess. Of course we were good boys and declined, never did understand why she was offering beer to high school students.

Well who the heck was it then? Huh. It wasn't a party that included alcohol. Just a bunch of the choir kids hanging out snacking and listening to music. I don't remember much about it other then pulling up to the house and a blip of what the inside looked like. I think I remember hearing about your hostess in MI and the offer of beer!! How wild is that???!!!

I remember "someone" sitting in a bathtub that was on the street corner in Fargo. That "someone" being Mr. Brenna or Mr. Alm. And the restaurant we ate at.....Beef and Bun maybe? That was a weird night. I also remember we put mustard in Naomi's toothpaste tube. She got an icky surprise when she went to brush her teeth in the morning. Sorry!! I know we apologized back then too. At the time it was hysterical!! And Naomi was a good sport about it.

"And one time, at band camp.............." Sure Lynn, you guys didn't have any fun. Right. I think you band people knew how to have a good time. You and your instruments.

Mr. Alm, I think I have a picture around here somewhere of that bathtub scene......I'll have to find it and try to paste it onto here. Blocking out the face of course.

Re: Things that mattered
Remember Peter C from NY? Just before he left to go back to NY we had a going away party for him up at Timmy's cabin. Of course Pete had too much to drink and puked his guts out. I rode one of Tim's snowmobiles that night and the steering shaft came out of it's socket and the snowmobile crashed into the snowbank on the side of the road. It flipped upside down and gas was dripping on the exhust pipe while it was still running. Thought I was going to be a barbacued boy that night!

Baby Blue Peter!! Thats what Mary E started calling him in our Jr year (?) after he wore a baby blue suit to Homecoming. Thats the year he was our homecoming prince wasn't it? I miss him. I wish he would find his way back here for a reunion or Heritage Days or something.

Are you sure it was a mechanical failure with the sled Dave or did the Everclear kick in? :-)

You boys knew how to have a good time.

Definately a mechanical failure, never touched Everclear to this day. Didn't need to drink to act silly back then. We used to go to our cabin on Kane Lake in the winter, cut a hole in the ice and jump in after getting the sauna up to 200 + degrees. Did this numerous times, guess we never figured out it wasn't to smart to do. It was so cold one night we would send someone else out first with a fish net to skim the ice off the hole before we jumped in again!

How about Blue Jeans perfume? I sprayed some of that (okay, ALOT of that) in Scott B's locker one time. I admitted to it at our 10th reunion. I'm sure he deserved it at the time. He was/is one of my very best friends and I'm sure he did something "prankish" to me back then to have deserved that.

I remember one time I was innocently standing by my locker that I shared with my best friend Lynn, and Chris Leupold (our foreign exchange student) came over and asked me what kinky was. I was stunned to say the least! Speechless! Then I hear a few snickers so I turned around and there were my loving friends Brian A, Gary C, Guts and Bennett just giggling. They put him up to it. Nice guys huh?

So did you guys (boys) have anything "cool" that you wore? I remember Hash jeans and bumper tennies and navy blue nail polish and ponchos for us girls. I know we all wore jean jackets and those green or blue parkas with the fake fur trimmed hoods. MAN were we stylin'!!

Oh yeah, Dave, the sauna then the icy lake thing was wild!! I never did that in high school but I did in college one time when a bunch of us went to the Boundary Waters and stayed at a camp. Holy cow. I remember my heart stopping and not being able to breathe when I hit the water!! But did we do it again? You bet!!

I think I was at your cabin once. I don't know why. I know I went up with Kathy M and Rick and Di. Do you guys still have that cabin?

Was away on Spring Break, took the crew to Newport Beach, CA. Did the tourist thing, going to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, one morning on Laguana Beach and the afternoon by the pool.

No Deb, the cabin is gone, my folks sold it to a couple whom had it torn down and put up a prefab house on the land. I believe the sauna is still there though. Only thing I remember thinking was cool was my leather lettermens jacket until some dumbass stole it out of my locker.

So you never got your letterman's jacket back??!! Thats awful !! Maybe you can get a new one now. They're really nice. That would be something that your wife can buy for you since I'm sure you have everything else you need/want.

I hate gauchos. I did then. I still do. My legs are too short for those nasty things.

Spring Break trip sounds great Dave!! How was Universal Studios? We would like to bring our boys there sometime. Better than Disneyland?

Egg beaters. You know. Jump rope. I came from Silver Bay where I don't remember many people jumping rope, to TH and that was THE thing to do at recess. That and kickball on the old Minne playground.

Those two glass balls held together with a heavy type string that you clicked and clacked together. They eventually took them off the market because the glass would chip off the balls and I suppose fly in someones eye or some such thing.

They take all the good stuff away! (Listen to that whine!).

No use for a Lettermen's jacket anymore. My Dad offered to buy another one for me but told him to save the money as I knew I was going to college and wouldn't be wearing it there.

Depends on the age of your kids Deb. Universal is better for the older ones Disney for the younger ones. My boys will be 15, 13 & 4 this summer (Will probably be the last time my older boys go to Disney). Universal and Disney in Florida is newer and larger than Universal and Disney in CA. Lines are longer in Florida though. Make sure you get Fast Passes at Disney for the popular attractions. We bought the Southern California City Pass from Costco before we left for $175 for adults and $135 for 9 and under. Can't beat the price if it you want to be busy every day. When we went in Florida we bought tickets on line from Mapleleaftickets.com. They had the best prices at the time and had tickets for all the major attractions.

Oh yeah California traffic, sucks. The day we left we went to Disneyland to kill some time before our flight left that evening. It took 2.5 hours to go 34 miles form Disneyland to LAX airport. Although traffic around Disneyworld in FLA is no picnic either.

Was anyone else on here in Charlie Youngs class in 6th grade? What an interestingly fun homeroom!! He let us play records. Taught us to speed read. I thought he was a really cool guy.

Remember those gymnastics "tapes" we used to have to watch for gym? The ones that showed step by step how to do a cartwheel or somersault? They were on some weird projector thing that I'm sure is in some museum somewhere today!

Don't feel bad, Lynn. I could not really do cartwheels either...had to fake it and make a fool of myself, too. I think they just wanted you to at least give it a try, but an F is harsh! Actually, I could not swim worth ..it either. I think gym/swim class must have been the only one where I did not get an A

I remember Mr. Hermanson's homeroom - open labs where we could listen to music - portable cassette tape players - listening to Fleetwood Mac "Rumors" - sliding down "suicide hill" in the back of the high school - solid ice! Dances in the gym after football games - how about "The Place"? 24 hour dance marathons. . .

I thought of this recently and Deb pretty much told me I was out of my mind, and Brad didn't remember either. However, a former teacher and my brother both remembered. Baked potatoes being sold at football games, wrapped in foil as hand warmers.

We had Mr. Battagila and then Coach for homeroom. In the cafeteria. I guess when they got to the end of the alphabet they figured, what the hell, lets just stick 'em down there.

Fleetwood Mac! Thats funny you should say that Cindy, because when I think of them I think of you. Not sure why that is but its a good thing. I connect you with them for some reason.

And, Lynn, I have to apologize for my insistence that there were no such things as baked potatoes at football games. I should have believed you. I truly don't remember such a thing. It frightens me sometimes how much I DON'T remember!

Deb, you are a sponge of information from days gone by. It surprises me when most of the time I can say something, anything and you'll have the story that goes along with it. Me on the other hand, don't remember oh so much!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday Dear Debbie. . . . . .

Happy Birthday to you!!! HMMMM - now how is it we used to spend our birthdays - with a shot and a beer? Oh. . . those long ago days - I am lucky if I can down 2 glasses of wine in one sitting these days, or Cosmos if I'm feeling REALLY frisky! However, there is nothing better than the little b-day gifts your kids give you. And don't EVEN talk about kids graduating - Quinci just started middle school and is 11 - Riley is in 3rd grade. I have no idea where the time went - I just wish they were babies again. Have a GREAT one - and for old-times sake - beat at least one loop!!!!! Cindy

Thanks Cindy!! That was a magnificent rendition! Us? A shot and a beer? Nope, you must be thinking of someone else. ;)

I drink about 3 times a year now. Heritage Days is one of those times. Always in excess. Always regret it the next day! Of course, "in excess" these days means 4 beers instead of 10.

My youngest, who just turned 9, gave Brad a beautiful necklace a year ago for his birthday. He made it himself. A very small piece of driftwood duck taped to a string. Gorgeous. Brad still has it hanging on his rearview mirror.

I hear ya on where did the time go. I long for those baby days. I miss the cuddles and the rocking them to sleep and holding their tiny hands. sigh.

I promise to beat a loop tonight for you. If I can remember my camera I'll snap a photo or 2 to post.

Will anyone be in town this year for Heritage Days? This will be the 1st time in 4 years that we haven't had a reunion to go to! Our 25th, then the all class then Brad's 30th last year. This is going to be a weird year. Maybe I'll have to crash someone else's reunion.

Maybe we should set a time and place for members of the Class of '79 to meet on that Friday night. Just an informal, "meet you by the beer tent at 10:00" kind of thing. Then we can say hi to each other, swap a couple lies and toast to the night and then be on our way. In fact, unless someone else has a better idea, lets do that!
