It was time for a new topic here. I know I'm not a '79'er, but I am married to one so I get to play here a little bit too.

Deb and I are working on updating the bulletin board. Some of the functions aren't set up yet, but we're picking away at it as we can. This newer version gives us many more tools to work with to keep unwanted posts from appearing here. I mean really, how many of us need more drugs, bigger penises, larger breasts, or investment opportunities? Hey, wait a minute! Maybe some of that doesn't sound so bad. Anyway, stay tuned . . . . .

Alrighty then!! Welcome back to an actual active THHS1979 board! I was being viciously attacked by spambots and you guys were probably as tired of them as I was. So, I did some board restrictions and beefed up things a bit so now with the help of my trusty techno bodyguard/bouncer I think we are free of them at last!

PLEASE fire this baby up again. We were having such fun! I'm going to e-mail some of our classmates to let them know its safe to come back. After I do that I'll have a grand re-opening of some kind. Who knows, maybe there will be pseudo prizes.

Those poor Vikes. Its hard to keep trying to have faith in them year after year when they mess up so often. Personally, I prefer my former "backup" team, the New England Patriots. They used to be my backup, now I think I will have to claim them for my favorite.

I must admit I've never been a fan of the Broncos. Although I did really enjoy watching them play in the Super Bowl that year that they lost so badly! ;) I think it was '89 maybe?

So what is everyone doing for Halloween? What are your kids dressing as? Our 2 oldest will stay home and hand out candy this year. They wear masks and hit the neighbors up for candy between "trickers". Our youngest is going to be "L'il Darth". His own concoction. Darth Vadar in a hip-hop form. Although he tells me today that he isn't going to wear any bling. Huh. Oh well.

There's still time! Get out there and vote!

Lots of tension and activity in the political world of TH this year. I think I speak for the majority when I say we will be glad when this election is over. Uff da!

You know who I'd like to see again? Cindy M. I don't think I've seen her since shortly after we graduated. I think it was at Styx and Di's wedding as a matter of fact. I'd like to see Mark M and Jack D too. And Dan S. I found him but I lost him again. Maybe they'll be back for the 30 year reunion! Thats not all that far away.........

We can't possibly be nearing the age when we could have a 30th reunion. No way.

My dear husband's family got an e-mail from our class of '79 foreign exchange student Chris. He has 2 little ones, Angelina and Sebastian and he is teaching first graders! He still lives in Switzerland and wanted us to "Say hello to all the Agates I know!!". So, hello Agates, from Chris!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday.

But the right side of 50 is closer to 0 than to 100. Stand by, we'll get older! I expect that our world (attitudes) may change further when we hit 50 1/2.
Hope to see y'all soon.

It sounds like Christoph is doing well. I will reply to his message in the next few days and ask him if its ok to distribute his e-mail address. I'll also send him links to some boards to which he may wish to post.

My oldest, David whom is 15, got to play in the Pepsi Center, in Denver this pst Monday, in a JV game against Golden, CO. All the boys really enjoyed it even though they lost the JV & Varsity games. This is a portion of the article in Monday’s Summit Daily our local newspaper, I thought you might like to read. It was pretty awesome for a 15 year old to play on an NBA court.

DENVER — Twenty years from now, they will remember the leather recliners and televisions in their locker room; the motor coach that picked them up at school and dropped them off at the Pepsi Center entrance, where they were escorted through the NBA arena’s halls before eventually warming up the hardwood for Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson and their Nuggets teammates later that night.

It’s a good bet the Summit High School boys basketball players will also recall the outcome of their game against Golden on Monday afternoon, a 64-52 loss, but on this day the thrill could not be numbed by defeat.

“You could see in their eyes it was just something they won’t forget,” SHS coach Mike Rathgeber said. “I know I won’t.”

“I got no complaints. We played well, they played better,” the SHS coach said. Summit dropped to 14-8 with the loss, which hurt a little bit more because it pushed the Tigers to a sub-.500 mark in Jeffco League action (3-4) and guaranteed they will finish sixth in the 10-team league.

239 fans made the trip from Summit to see the game in person.

“It wasn’t just the floor,” Rathgeber said of the day’s events, which included seats for the Denver-Golden State game Monday evening, “it was everything. The whole day, no matter where we went or what we did, everything was first class. These kids got to see what it feels like to be an important basketball player.”

My son had a soccer game today at the new school. He said there are now 2 benches along the sidewalk up there that say "In Honor Of The Classes of 1978-1981". Thought some of you might like to know that and may want to go have a sit on one next time you're in the area. Maybe close your eyes and have a little trip down memory lane....... Lynn can tell me for sure, but I think we paid for those with some of the $$ from the all class reunion mixer we had with those classes.

Summer has been over here in Breckenridge, CO for a while. It snowed up in the mountains last night. Combination of rain and snow in Breckenridge at 9600 feet. Breathe deep you flatlanders!

Got laid off from my East-coast employer this summer about mid-June. Started working again the end of August for Vail Resorts. Was nice to have the summer off. Life is good, free ski passes for family & I, great health insurance, great pay, work out the wazoo for years. If any of you are looking for a new job and a new start someplace else, check out www.skijob1.com. Price of real estate is expensive though!

Way slow response from me on your post, Dave. Sorry about that.

I like to leave other people's names showing on the posts so anyone that happens to peek here doesn't just see my name only and assume I'm just on here talking to myself. Which I often feel I'm doing anyway. I DO appreciate you taking time to check in now and then. I've actually been debating whether or not just to shut this down. It costs a few bucks a month and I could use those bucks for new shoes or something. :-) The cost really isn't the issue, it's just the lack of interest. I really did hope that this would become a fun hang out for our classmates. It had a pretty decent start and now I'm afraid it has died. We'll see. I'll let it hang for awhile yet but there may come a day when it just fades away.

If any of our classmates were former Clover Valley folks, they have an excellent site. My friend Torggy runs it and it has taken off like wild fire! He had some troubles getting his out there for people to know about but little by little a few more people would hear about it and then a few more and now.......holy cow, it's a lot of fun to read!! Lots of history on there.

http://www.twoharborsforum.com/cgi-bin/discus/board-auth.cgi?file=/3328/3328.htm l&lm=1166359171

Not sure if that link will work or not but if you click on my LINKS thread you can find it there.

Back to you Dave. And thank you for your patience:
Weren't you kind of terrified when you got laid off? Wow...you were there for a long time weren't you? How sweet to have almost the whole summer off!!! Your new job sounds fantastic and I think I envy your life! We were just saying the other night that maybe we should retire in Boulder, CO. My grand plan after I finished travel school was to move there. Didn't make it. You sound very content and happy with your life and that's always a blessing!!

Worked for 3 different general contractors since 83. The last one for 10 years, but knew it wasn't going to last as the jobs and employees had dwindled down to single digits. High-tailed it back to MN in July to see folks, sisters, and take 2 older boys to basketball camp at NDSU in Fargo. Also saw a bunch of relatives in So. MN and took my 5 year old to a stock car race one night.

Moving to CO was best thing we ever did, especially after living for 17 years in that East coast rat race. Older boys go to high school about the same size that TH used to be. Lots of opportunity for them to play sports, etc. Economy here doesn't slow down like rest of country since we are in resort area. Real estate is still real good for my wife, which is good for me too since my employer develops condos at the base of the ski slopes. Go to www.oneskihillplace.com/oneskihill to see the unveiling of the latest project which will start in April of 2008. Click on the buttons to spin the building around and see the amenities, etc. Think snow, our economy here in CO depends on it!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!! A little early, I know. But be careful driving out there!! Anyone going anywhere fun for the holiday? Anyone have any unusual things you do on Thanksgiving? I have always made up games for the kids to play. My little boys and I used to make a turkey pinata but then all the little boys got bigger and one swat at that poor turkey and it was all over. So I came up with other games. We now have a raw turkey wing toss. Whoever gets it closest to the target wins prizes. And we do turkey bowling using empty aluminum cans and a frozen cornish game hen. (the turkey is just too big to bowl with). And we hide a small stuffed turkey somewhere in the house and one person is "it" and they have to try to find it. When they are far away from it, instead of saying "you're getting colder", we gobble quietly. As they get closer to where it's hidden we gobble louder and louder. It's pretty funny listening to a room full of almost adults and adults (and one little kid) gobbling like turkeys!! Oh well. Even the biggest kid likes it and it's something fun for them to tell their own kids about some day.

Been watching my two oldest boys play basketball lately. Boy does that bring back memories of TH. They are a young team and have won one game and lost four so far. My 16 year old (whom says he is 6'-7" with his BB shoes on) starts on the Varsity and my 14 year old (5'-8")plays one half of the C team games and one half of the JV games. We have a new coach this year whom has taken 2 or 3 California high school teams to state tournaments so people are optomistic, but looks like it will have to wait till next year judging by the way they have started out. Took my 5 year old to the Rec Center in Breckenridge this AM to sit on Santa's lap and then go swimming after he finished making some Christmas decorations. To all of you faithful readers, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We will be driving to AZ (nice & warm) for Christmas to spend it at my folks place, although they have already flown to MN to see my sisters.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and may 2008 be a joyous year for us all! I'm looking forward to beginning to plan our 30th, does it really seem we can be planning that already? We truly are not that old....

This year has been a rough one, first the loss of my sister, a divorce after 26 years of marriage, then my Dad passed away. BUT....it is possible to find good in it all, a new job, back in night school working towards a bachelors degree, two great sons, my health, and a new relationship with a wonderful man.

2008 is going to be an awesome year.

Wow, sounds like you've had a lifetime of trials in one year Lynn. This year has got to be a better one for you.

My oldest son David, 16, and middle son Michael, 14, both got to play at the Pepsi Center in Denver yesterday. This was the second time for my oldest whom starts varsity, and the first time for Michael whom plays C team and JV. The C team didn't officially play yesterday but the coach made sure all of them got to play at least one quarter on a NBA court. Neither of the boy's teams won as they played a much larger school but it was a fun to get out of work early and watch them.

MN weather here lately, 15 below yesterday. We have lots of snow, so come out and ski!!

Hi Mark!! I know. I should have posted on here DAYS ago welcoming you but I always wait a bit for someone else to say hello so it's not always my name showing as the most recent poster! Apparantly our classmates are a lot shyer then they used to be. I think I'll offer a beverage of choice at the next reunion to the first 5 "new" classmates to post on here. (that means those of you that are out there reading but have never posted on here). I buy.

How are you anyway? I tired e-mailing you at the old e-mail address I had for you but it kicked back as no longer active. I was just going to say hi and let you know that we look forward to seeing you at the reunion next year! You are on the "most wanted" list you know. Classmates we really miss and would love to see again! There's only one way off the list and thats to show up! I think we're all pretty well behaved these days and I think most of us have grown up and turned out to be pretty darn nice people! And good looking, of course. No one looks a day over 25.

Hey Deb, Thanks for keeping us informed. I don't get the Chronicle anymore so sometimes local news is hard to come by. I don't care how old we feel some days but Chris passing away at 47 is too young! To be honest it took about 10 seconds to connect the name with the face before I realized whom you were talking about.

Who is going to be in Two Harbors August 3, 4 & 5th? My wife, 3 boys and I will be there on those days to celebrate my parent's 60th wedding anniversary. Would be great to meet up with some of you to see what has happened these past 29 years!

Hey Deb...what's going on? I get on your board every few months to go way back and I haven't seen much chit-chattin going on. I do enjoy the memories and moments that everyone brings up. Really makes me wish I could have graduated from THHS. I've always thought that, though. What a time...growing up in Minnesota. Freshman year will always be my best year of school. I can't imagine what hanging three more years with the Class of 79 would have been like. No regrets, though. Life is good. It's fun to google Mary Erno and send her an email out of the blue. I spoke to Jeff Nordean a couple months ago. We just pick up where we left off, whether it was three years ago or two months ago. That's cool. Gotta go. Two boys - Roman is 10 and A.J. is almost 6 - need to be in bed. Keep up the good work on this site.

Been awful quite lately on this board! Is anyone left in TH or did you all move out? Your response is required!!!!!

Summit high school football team is in division 3A CO playoffs, second playoff game is tomorrow 11/08/08. My two oldest boys are waiting for basketball season to start which is Monday. Last chance to go elk hunting starts 11/12/08, hopefully we can get one to come close enough to shoot. During bow season my oldest son called one in w/i 70 yards but that is to far away to shoot an arrow.

We took in an 18 year old senior for an undetermined amount of time, as his mom threw him out of the house and he had no place else to go. Seems to be working out so far. Trying to get him to enroll in college so he will make something of himself. Time will tell.

Breckenridge Ski Resort opened up today 11/07/08, only have 1 run at the moment but more will open soon. Had free pancake breakfast for all whom wanted to ride the gondola up to the mountain from town. Life is good up in the mountains!

Am sending the oldest one to MN for college next year. He just has to decide if he is going to play baseball for ST. Cloud Technical College or basketball for Minnesota State University-Moorhead. No scholarships available for either one so will have to see what he decides.

Limber your fingers up an type you fools!!

Dave

Jerry! I know, I am SO tardy in my response to your post. Apologies all around.

You were always the source of much humor and you were a bit of a little devil. Not a bad thing! I may have posted this somewhere on here before but I think of it everytime I think of you.....I remember in about 7th grade, in the cafeteria, you were in line and Jody F was already sitting at a table and you yelled "hey! somethin' stinks! Faughnan! Put your legs together!" No, I don't know why I remember that but I do! Not your proudest moment now I"m sure but man, back then the whole lunchroom roared!!! Too funny. If I remember right, Jody just turned a wild shade of red. I only wish we could have had you around when you hit your full potential! Besides, you were pretty nice to look at.........

Dave, I always enjoy hearing whats going on in your life and I thank you for your efforts to get people in our class to communicate on here!! It's my one wish.

How did the football team do? THHS was headed for state but we were stopped by Proctor. Not too bad of a season! 2 steps away from state. It's been a LONG time since that happened!
My oldest 2 are not playing basketball this year. First time since 2nd grade. They are 9th graders this year. They were discouraged from it last season. The team had about 22 guys and the coaches (whom I have a lot of respect for normally) decided to focus most of their energy on their "core group" which left the other 16 guys pretty much on their own. Not a good plan in my eyes. They lost an opportunity to develop and refine talent (this was a group of 8th graders) and by doing that they lost about 6 of the guys including my 2. But mine do other things so thats okay.

One of my 9th graders is a football player and he was one of 4 freshman chosen to play varsity this year. Next year he is headed for the starting center spot. He eats, sleeps and breathes football. He also is in track an does the shot and discus.

My other 9th grader is our soccer monster. He is totally absorbed in his soccer. Which we think is awesome! His spring/summer league team went to playoffs and took 2nd place. Excellent job by those guys. He plays JV at THHS but they struggle as a sport in general. Not enough guys go out for soccer so normally they only have 1, maybe 2 subs so they get worn down. We play 7th graders on our JV team just to have enough guys. But those guys are so determined and just like bulldogs out there. They never give up. Lots of good skill on the field but they just need bigger numbers. And there is a constant change in coaching so the program has no stability either which hurts.

Our youngest is in 5th grade and plays soccer (goalie) and basketball. They have a tough time getting numbers too since hockey is at the same time and hockey eats up a lot of guys that age.

Brad's oldest daughter and her husband and kids moved to TH from Arkansas this fall. We have wanted this for about 4 years now so we are in 7th heaven!! They were way too far away for us to help in any way and we miss the grandkids! The oldest is in kindergarten and she just turned 6. The boys are 5 and 2 1/2. They live down the street from us, next door to Mr. Jeff Nordean as a matter of fact, so we are happy about that. Not so much the part about them living next to Jeff though. (just kidding Jeff).

The snow just won't stop falling here. Mounds and mounds of it. The kids love it. I wish it was May.

We are still working on plans for the 30th. We put an add in the paper when we were first going to start planning. We gave the date and time and location of where we were meeting to start planning but there were only 6 of us that showed up. But thats okay! It's the core group that has planned the last 2 so that works.

And I am with Dave on this one........c'mon and type something you guys! If you can't type get one of your kids or a neighbor to type FOR you! Let's hear whats going on in your lives.

To Becky R. I still haven't paid my Classmates subscription fee so I can't read anything if you've posted on my profile!
